This is the 9th book in the Rachel Prince series and I think it is the best one yet. This time Rachel is sailing undercover as a passenger to help solve the crime. The descriptions, again, blend into the story so they are not intrusive or distracting. We get to know the main characters better with each book, and it's easy to empathize with them. There are twists and turns that keep the reader guessing who did the deed until the end. I particularly like that Ms. Brookes describes some of the places and sites that the passengers see in the ports the Coral Queen's visits. Having completed 50 cruises over the years, it's nice to revisit some of the places we actually saw in person. It's also fun to learn more about the staff quarters that Rachel experiences that we didn't get to see on our "Ship's Tour" when onboard our homes away from home.Dawn Brookes uses humor to break the tension just at the right times. Example: I think I actually laughed out loud after reading about the conversation in the Coral Queen's Library between Rachel and Jordon Harding! She was so flustered, which is so out of character for her! This helps to make her real and three dimensional and not always "perfect." And I laughed again when Jordon said, "I'm from Paris. The city of lurve," especially when I looked up the meaning of the word lurve! Since I am from the U.S., I really enjoy looking up the new-to-me British words and expressions. I'm learning a lot! Each story can stand alone, but it's good to read them in order so you can see the characters and their relationships develop over time.I am really looking forward to reading the author's upcoming books: the #10 book in the Rachel Prince Series: "Captain's Dinner Cruise Murder;" The Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe Mystery book; "Murder at the Opera House;" and the new Carlos Jacobi, PI series book, "Body in the Park" when they come out. I highly recommend this book to those who like a good story that you can be involved with until the end! I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read the book before the official publishing, in exchange for pointing out any typos or areas that needed correction. I failed on my end. I became so engrossed in the story that I forgot all about proof reading. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Rachel Prince mystery cruise series. I get to vicariously enjoy cruising, and exotic locations I’m not likely to visit, and the characters and storylines are always well thought out. Figuring out ‘who done it’ typically escapes me until a beat or two before the reveal. If that. I recommend the series to cozy mystery lovers!
